Teens Explore Racism In London: Video Art Postcards

© 2008 Video Arts PostcardsIn the summer of 2007, two groups of teenagers aged 14 to 19 from the London Borough of Newham participated in a unique experience: assisted by video artists and historians, the teenagers uncovered sites related to historical racism and anti-racism in the West India Docks area of London and expressed their interpretation of this history and heritage creatively, using digital media and their imaginations. Study: When Participants Do the Capturing: The Role of Media in

In this study, Scott Carter of Berkeley and Jennifer Mankoff of Carnegie Mellon Univeristy investigate how the choice of media for capture and access affects the diary study method. The diary study is a method of understanding participant behavior and intent in situ that minimizes the effects of observers on participants.usually occurs in one of two ways: participants answer prede?ned questions about events (feedback studies) or participants capture media that are then used as prompts for discussion in interviews (elicitation studies).
