14th Annual DocuWeeks

Los Angeles and New York City are hosting week-long documentary screenings in August as part of the 14th Annual International Documentary Association DocuWeeks. Screening as one of— if not the only — participant-produced films in the festival is Mozambique, a short movie by African teenager Alcides Soares for the Venice Arts-IPE project, The House is Small but the Welcome is Big. The documentary short will screen August 13-19 at the Arclight Hollywood in Los Angeles.

USC Micro-Seminar: How User-Generated Photography Can Change the World

IPE Co-founder Jim Hubbard and Andrew Lakoff will present their micro-seminar, How User-Generated Photography Can Change the World, through USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism on August 19-20 (times TBA). This seminar will explore how cameras are being used in Los Angeles and around the world as well as discuss relevant issues in the participant photography field. Shooting Back from Palestine

IPE co-founder Jim Hubbard and a team from Venice Arts are working in Jericho, Jerusalem, the West Bank and other areas of the Middle East this summer on a documentary project with Palestinian youth, sponsored by PalTel Group Foundation (PGF). The project includes a hands-on training component for local university students interested in sustaining a program after Jim leaves. Training and Consultation in Hong Kong

IPE co-founder Lynn Warshafsky and a team from Venice Arts are consulting with a Hong Kong-based foundation on developing their photography programs for Hong Kong youth. After an initial meeting in March, the team returns to Hong Kong this summer to train the foundation’s teaching artists and consult with them as they launch a photo camp for youth and an academic year program.
