Shooting Back from Palestine

IPE co-founder Jim Hubbard and a team from Venice Arts are working in Jericho, Jerusalem, the West Bank and other areas of the Middle East this summer on a documentary project with Palestinian youth, sponsored by PalTel Group Foundation (PGF). The project includes a hands-on training component for local university students interested in sustaining a program after Jim leaves. PhotoPhilanthropy 2010 Activist Awards

PhotoPhilanthropy has added a new award for community-based art organizations for this year’s Activist Awards. The new Community Activist Award will offer non-profit organizations that teach photography within a community a chance to compete for one $2,000 reward.

All accepted submissions will be publicized on the PhotoPhilanthropy website and will receive a discount toward Blurb Books. Submissions will be accepted until October 1, 2010.

Through Our Eyes: The Young Black Men’s Photovoice Project on Factors Affecting Their Transition to Manhood

Young black men from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds photographed the factors they felt affected their transitions to manhood in this gallery presented in collaboration with National Family Life & Education Center, Los Angeles Urban League, KAOS Network, Healthy African American Families II, California Institute of Health & Social Services, Children’s Institute, Inc., UCLA, RAND Corporation and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

When: Saturday, July 17 — 1 p.m. to  4 p.m.
