Featured Project
THE HOUSE IS SMALL
The House is Small but the Welcome is Big explores the impact of HIV/AIDS as experienced through the eyes of women and children living in South Africa and Mozambique. The first phase of the project was completed in February 2006 when Venice Arts’ photographers traveled to Cape Town, South Africa to teach 15 HIV positive women, recent moms and moms-to-be, how to document their lives photographically.
The second phase of the HIS taught Mozambican children who had lost both of their parents to AIDS, many of whom were living on their own and raising their younger siblings, how to use photography to tell the uncensored story of their lives.
The result is a powerful body of photography that are at once tragic and hopeful, lively and compelling. Some are difficult to look at. All of them are hard to dismiss.
If the stories from this project move you, take action now and see how easy it is to make a difference. With any amount, large or small, every single dollar pledged to the campaigns listed below get directed toward the communities documented in these photographs. Current campaigns include building a house for a family of children in Maputo, educating a child in Maputo, and running an ongoing photo program with the children whose beautiful work is reflected in this project.
